Earthquake Part III: The Final Chapter

19Mar11

Lisa’s home!

After two weeks, the largest earthquake in the history of Japan, a 12 hour flight to JFK and a 4 hour van ride, Lisa is back in Philly. And she has been asleep ever since.

She said it is surreal to be back in the apartment, back in the U.S., where it is safe. She said with every random rumble, like when I fell on the bed next to her, she was afraid it was another earthquake.

All in all, she said she knew she was safe in Tokyo, but there was always a sense of impending danger or catastrophe. To ease the stress, Lisa bought 5 new pairs of shoes yesterday (she only planned to buy 1 pair), and said that made her feel much better.

Myself, I spent four hours cleaning the apartment before Lisa got home. Luckily I only used three spots in the apartment while Lisa was gone, so cleaning was minimal, but dishes do tend to accumulate over the course of 2 weeks.

I have been cooking all day and am gently trying to wake Lisa up for dinner. My boss gave me a crock pot recipe book and I am cooking chicken breasts marinating in a sauce consisting of salsa, lemon juice, ground cumin, oregano, sliced onions and minced garlic. It smells good.

I guess all is well in our world again. The stress of not knowing what was going to happen and not being able to do anything about it took its toll over the last week.

It is nice to have a weekend off to recuperate. Now I will have to find something else to write about.
